Home Again

My folks and I returned last night from our annual trip to visit my brother and his family for Christmas. We were gone for several days and now we miss our loved ones very much.

We got to watch my 9 year old nephew T swing from rope swings which hang from big trees in his back yard. He put on an excellent demonstration for us on Christmas Eve. Later, we went to church, then had a beautiful dinner with wonderful people.

My brother and me at the dinner party. Don’t bother pressing me to explain the headgear. I could tell you, but then I’d have to drown you in a vat of mulled cider.

There was much more celebration on Christmas Day, which lasted into the evening. And there was rain to keep things moving along without drying up. Then on Sunday, a few of us traveled to the coast, to San Francisco, for more fun. Others stayed home to break in the new toys.

A great time was had by all. And again, I miss those I had to leave behind up yonder, in the dripping trees and enviable quiet, amongst the nibbling deer. I love you all… I would rather be with you on Christmas than with the finest people in the world.

In the words of Alma Garret, “We do love each other. Our being together ought not to seem so outlandish a proposition. … Except for every other single thing.”

Deck the Halls!

I haven’t had much too blog about the last several days. I’ve started a few posts, and lost interest. The drafts are mulling like cider in the back of my mind. But don’t wait up.

As a consolation, here’s a great little video to watch. It’ll warm your punch, is my point.

Speakers on!

Into The Silent

One of my poems, as read by a guy who looks like Einstein. Why not?

When the sky turns
light again
I will stand up, I will
become a man
as the cool dawn
breeze returns.

I will not go out, I
will lie here
putting down roots
into this darkness
that I do not understand.

There will not be
birds, such as sing
for children at dawn.
I am becoming a man
all night, and when

the sky turns light
again, I will be a tomb.
With every sunrise I go
farther into the hard
core of the earth,

listening
as women far above
become fountains
with blue stones
in sunlight.

The Morning Wind, performed

A couple of days ago, I posted a link to a flash fiction piece called The Morning Wind.

These 2 little bears are going to perform a reading of it for you. The male bear will read his part and narrate.

The script is a little messy. I had some trouble with cinematography. It’s new to me.

Enjoy.

arrrgh!

It be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, ye scurvy squid. And if ye think about it, blog be a very pirate-sounding word.

But truth be told, me hearties, unless I’m just bellerin’ Avast a lot, I doubt I’ll be talkin’ like a private for long. I have enough misadventures, just talkin’ like meself.

But now I’ve got the pirate song from Disneyland stuck between my ears, and it may hang on for hours.

blogger got cooler

Is cooler the right word in that context, meaning more cool? … Dudn’t matter.

I got an e-mail from Blogger a couple of days ago, and I just got around to reading it. They have a new template designer for Blogger blogs like this, with a vast shipload of new templates, layouts, and designs. I’m trying it out. You may see Metaphor adopt a few different designs in the coming days. Or not. It depends on how funny the commercials are, since that’s when I redesign the blog.

When these guys are on, forget about it.

Trouble seeing the video? Click here.

If you’re a Blogger blogger and you want to check out the new toys, go to draft.blogger.com/home, select Layout then click Template Designer and you’re good to go.

Yep, your e-mail subscriptions – and there are 3 times as many of you as the last time I checked [woohoo!] – are still good.

E-mail subscribers are reminded that the e-mail is a simplified samplification of the blog. Click the links in the e-mail to get Metaphor in full color blogovision.

Starting tonight, one can also follow Metaphor on Twitter, though I can’t say why you’d necessarily want to. The option was there, it’s free, I clicked it. Besides, President Barak Obama is following my tweets, so I must be all that, right?
