1. I think the human, along with its fellow species, are evolving. But the concept that evolution is invariably positive — as in finer, gentler, wiser — ain't necessarily so. It could be (and the evidence supports this, I think) that the human is gaining greater command over its environment, greater communicative ability, greater access to nonproductive experience. But does this mean we're becoming less obtrusive, less destructive members of our common? No. Indeed, the evidence is powerfully to the contrary. We're wrecking this place.
