Counsels

Last night, I promised that if you were good, I’d post a stanza by Czeslaw Milosz. Actually, you weren’t very good; you didn’t leave any comments on my blog. Hence, you didn’t remind me either. Oh well.

Man has been given to understand

that he lives only by the grace of those in power.

Let him therefore busy himself sipping coffee, catching butterflies.

He who cares for the Republic will have his right hand cut off.

from Counsels by Milosz, Montgeron, 1959

sleep deficit

Just about the only time I understand how They can keep spending like rabid chipmunks into the chill wind of massive deficit is when I’m this far behind in my sleep. It makes you stupid, just like spending too much does. I’ve been getting up earlier lately, but not necessarily going to bed earlier. So, I’m getting too tired. Basta. Good night. Tomorrow, if you remind me and if you’re very good, I’ll post an amazing stanza from a poem by C. Miloz. Peace.

Kindergarten Day

Today is Kindergarten Day, in honor of the birthday of the inventor of Kindergarten, Friedrich Froebel.

I don’t remember a lot about Kindergarten, except that we learned the colors, took naps on mats on the floor, and I got in trouble for pretending my banana was a pistol. Mrs. Wilson came to work wound a little tight that day, I guess. I’m sure she’d be impressed that I’ve learned the safe, responsible employment of both bananas and firearms.

Tea for Me

Know what’s not bad? Peach herb tea with sweet-n-low and French Vanilla creamer. … Uh oh, now you probably think less of me as a man. So what? It’s good. And I know how to use power tools, so kiss my blog.

Home again

Well, I’m home again. I’m feeling … some melancholy. I miss my brother. I miss the woods; the quiet, the smell of pine in warm sunshine. I miss my sister-in-law and little nephew too.

Sometimes I like living alone, sometimes I don’t.

metaphorically quiet

Hello, gentle readers. I’m still visiting my brother, and have had little time to update metaphor on a regular basis. But sometimes you have to live before you can write. And though my trusty laptop Sparky has a new OS (thanks J!) its dialup connection at 24kbps makes it not much of a tool for blogging. I forgot to bring the cables to connect it to brother’s cable.

The good news is that I have some new photos — it’s beautiful here — and I’ll get them online in a few days.

By the way, I finally got my taxes transmitted to the halls of power this morning. Got yours done? Of course you do. And do you feel atoned? E pluibus unum? Certainly. Our tax dollars go to make the world a better place for the weak and voiceless, and to pave the future of Liberty as with shining marble for the children.

Peace.
