violating common sense

Want to watch Alberto Gonzales, the Attorney General, deny that the Constitution grants habeus corpus, and get his watch set by Arlen Specter?

“You may be treading on your interdiction and violating common sense, Mr. Attorney General.”

It’s good Tube, kids!

  1. Ya know, because Arlan Specter has in the past been more than willing to slip and slide around issues–even constitutional issues–this exchange is heartening. Specter's got Right and Common Sense and so forth on his side. But I'm not cocky: The NeoFascists on the Supreme Court–Alito, Scalia, Thomas, Roberts–are capable of anything, any reading of any text or history, to support the power of the executive. Which highlights the importance–an unheralded importance–of the 2006 elections, changing the composition of the Congress. Bush's next nominee, should a vacancy occur, won't make it onto the Court if he's the same kind of ideologue as those four. Whew!
